What If I’m the One Who’s Wrong?
The Real Question is: What if I'm not? Doubt is human, but denial is a choice!
No.
You’re not in a cult.
You’re not brainwashed.
And you’re not the problem.
You are someone who has questioned, agonized, researched, resisted, and, above all, felt.
Cults don’t let you do that. Cults demand loyalty.
You demand accountability.
You want to know how I know you’re not in a cult?
Because you’re asking the terrifying question:
“What if I’m wrong?”
People deep in cults don’t ask that.
They punish it.
You? You sit with it. You let the discomfort live in the room. You hold yourself accountable, while those in power hold no one accountable, not even themselves.
That’s conscience.
That’s humanity.
That’s the opposite of a cult.
Trump’s movement doesn’t invite nuance or critical thinking.
It doesn’t say, “Let’s weigh the facts.”
It says, “Believe me or you’re the enemy.”
It says, “Worship me or I’ll destroy you.”
You?
You say:
“Show me the plans. Show me the policy. Show me what’s being done to the people with no safety net and no voice.”
And when you see the cruelty, you don’t turn away or justify it, you grieve it.
You speak up.
You show up.
That’s not a cult. That’s what a moral compass looks like when it’s still pointing True North.
I know the gaslighting out there is relentless.
I know it’s designed to make you second-guess what you know is real.
So ask yourself these questions:
Did you cheer when children were taken from their parents?
Did you call for violence when the vote didn’t go your way?
Did you mock the disabled, the grieving, or the poor?
Did you demand other people suffer so you could feel powerful?
No. You didn’t.
And yes, it’s okay to ask scary questions.
It’s okay to check in with yourself.
That’s what healthy people do.
But don’t confuse exhaustion with error.
Don’t mistake your heartbreak for delusion.
And don’t let this country’s descent into chaos convince you that you’re the one who lost the plot.
You’re not.
And if it hurts this much, it’s because you’re still alive in a world trying to make everyone numb.
And let’s name one more thing before we go: this? What are we living through?
It’s abuse.
